While a handful of Fijian athletes will be trying to make qualifying times for the Rio Olympics, other athletes will compete at an international meet for the first time at the Melanesian Games this week.

Team Fiji Manager, Kelvin Yee says there are athletes in the 250 member Fiji squad coming from every corner of the country.

“There are two or three guys who have coming in from Taveuni on Monday. There is a young gentleman from Beqa, he was here on Monday morning. Two young ladies coming all the way from Kadavu, they were also here first thing yesterday morning. We have also got a big number that have come in from the west as well.”
