The Fiji Surfing Association is seeking the services of an international coach for the first time.
Fiji Sports Commission chairman, Peter Mazey says the surfing body made a submission to the Commission under the overseas coaching grant to secure an international coach.
“Next year we have a request from surfing for an international coach. A lot of our young surfers are doing very well on the international circuit. That’s a professional circuit much like the rugby is now becoming a circuit so we are hoping we can assist with that.”
The country has played host to the Fiji Pro international surfing competition at Cloudbreak in Tavarua for the past two years.
The competition is a leg in the World Surf League and local surfers who have competed in the event include Isei Tokovu, Aca Ravulo and Inia Nakalevu.
