Dudley and Wainimakutu reign supreme

Dudley High and Wainimakutu Secondary Schools were crowned champions of the Suva Zone 1 athletics meet yesterday.

The school from Toorak managed to edge out rivals Nasinu Secondary by the slimmest of margins in the boys field.

Both schools collected eight gold medals however Dudley edged out Nasinu by one extra silver medal.

Wainimakutu Secondary managed to continue their impressive form to finish off in third place.

They did dominate the girls division with 10 gold, and two silver medals, ahead of Assemblies of God High School (7 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze), with Ratu Sukuna Memorial (5 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze).

Five new records were set in the field events, Jovesa Vaileba of RSMS was crowned the Best Male Athlete after he won two gold medals in the 400m and 800m races.

Kinisimere Leitabu of Wainimakutu Secondary was the Best Female Athlete after claiming three gold medals in the 200m, 400m, and 4×100m races.

Meanwhile the Lautoka Zone meet will be held today at Natabua Grounds.
