The 2002 Commonwealth Games gold medalist Nacanieli Takayawa says Team Fiji should not lose sight of their goals when competing in their various events.

Takayawa departed with the first batch of athletes for the games in Glasgow, Scotland yesterday and will serve as an official for Fiji’s lone judoka, Josateki Naulu.

Takayawa says it is important that the athletes not be overwhelmed by the environment and maintain their focus on their goals.

“I think they just have to stay positive, be happy and be focused on what is needed to be done. They just need to stay positive whenever they come into the competition.”

Takayawa won gold in judo at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in England.
The Glasgow Games will begin on July 23rd.
