July 1, 2014 12:34 am

Cricket Fiji will re-instate the East versus West Tournament this weekend.

The competition will pit the country’s best cricketers against each other for the JR White/Gray Nicholls Trophy and also provide new national coach, Shane Jurgensen a chance to refine the current men’s national squad from 38 down to 24 players.

The East versus West tournament will be a two-match series, with Game One to be played this Saturday at Albert Park in Suva, and game two to be contested on the 19th July in Lautoka.

Cricket Fiji General Manager Inoke Lesuma says the tournament will be the first step for players to vie for a spot in the team to tour India in October as well as the East-Asia Pacific Qualifiers to regain a spot in the World Cricket League’s Division Six.

A national squad training camp will commence shortly after the conclusion of the Tournament.
