Boxing Fiji wants independency

Boxing Fiji now calling itself Fiji Amateur Boxing Association (FABA) is calling for independency.

Failure to provide amateur fights this year led to the Boxing Commission calling for the dissolution of FABA.

But FABA president, Wailena Vugakoto says if given enough time, they will be able to revive the sport by providing more fights and regain financial stability.

“We have been inactive in the ring since December but we have been meeting and trying to get things together. We respect the Boxing Commission, we are with them and not against them, we are just asking that they, the Ministry of Sports through FASANOC relook at the promulgation so that they can exclude or make amateur boxing independent from the Commission.”

Vugakoto admits no amateur boxing fights have been staged since September last year.

He says boxers will get time in the ring once they have cleaned up the association.
