Results of the Fiji Year 6 Examinations show a decline in the performance of students.

Education Minister – Dr Mahendra Reddy says the achievements are dropping when compared to the Year 6 results of 2008.

Dr Reddy says all other subjects except Vosa Vaka Viti and Mathematics have pass rates below 50%.

This is in contrast to the performance in 2008 where pass rates in all subjects were above 50%.

Dr Reddy says this revelation demonstrates that they have to work hard in the Primary School system to improve the understanding of basic foundations of knowledge.

He says the re-introduction of examinations this year will help them get the correct picture of the quality of students and teachers in the education system.

The last time the Year 6 Examination was administered in a large scale was in 2008 as an optional summative assessment with Fiji Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (FILNA).

Results have been released to the District Offices and Schools today.
