Vatuwaqa bus drivers on strike

More than 35 bus drivers from Central Transport Limited are currently on strike.

Speaking to FBC News, many drivers say they are not happy with the salary and working condition.

Mohammed Aiyub Dean who has been working for the company for more than 20 years says he has to travel from Navua to Suva every day to be at work at 6 am.

Dean says he works from 6 am to 2 pm every day and is only paid $150.

He says this is not enough for his family.

Dean claims the company has only increased the pay of drivers who were not in the Transport Workers Union.

Those part of the union is being paid $3.45 while those not part of the union is paid $3.70 per hour.

Those not part of the union were also given back pay backdated to October last year.

Meanwhile, the director of the bus company is expected to make a comment around mid-day.
