Two men who killed a sub-contractor in Nawaicoba Nadi in 2014 have been sent to prison by the Lautoka High Court today.
34-year-old father of two, Mataiasi Ului has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for murder while 35- year-old Maikeli Loko has been sentenced to 3 years imprisonment with a minimum of two years for manslaughter.
The two were manual workers at a small manufacturing company in Nadi town while the deceased was a sub-contractor to that company.
It was rumoured that the sub-contractor was using black magic in an attempt to affect some of the company workers and on 14th April 2014, a meeting was called to put the accusations to the deceased and get his response.
The court heard that the confrontation started with harsh words but quickly turned violent.
Loko hit the deceased with a broom before Ului picked him up, swung him around and dashed him on to the concrete floor.
As a result the deceased received severe injuries and passed away the following day.
