Tailevu Provincial Council meeting

April 22, 2015 5:03 am

The Ministry of Rural Development will work with other ministries and farmers to revive rice farming in the Tailevu Province.

That is one of the issues that will be discussed at the two-day provincial council meeting in Nausori.

Discussions will focus on development programmes that have been earmarked to benefit more than 50-thousand residents in the province.

Commissioner Central Meleti Bainimarama says the rural development ministry has allocated about $130,000 for development programmes in Tailevu.

‘’That budget is for the programs that I’ve outlined earlier the ones for self help, non- cane access, rural housing assistance’’.

The Korean-owned Grace Food Express Company which is based in Serua has expressed interest in developing rice farming.

‘’We hope to get them land in the north of Tailevu with leases expiring to run this program of rice replanting – rice revitalization’’.

Talks are also underway with potential investors to grow the dairy and beef farming in Tailevu.
