SPTO to boost Kiribati tourism sector

The South Pacific Tourism Organization conducted a three day training workshop for the implementation of an upcoming air visitors survey.

The survey is set to take place in January 2019 with the Kiribati National Tourism Office.

The Kiribati Air visitor Survey will be carried out by interviewing departing tourists at the Bonriki International Airport in Tarawa and Cassidy International Airport in Kiritimati (Christmas Island).

This will run for at least 10 months with a total targeted sample size of 2,400 tourists at both exit points.

SPTO Chief Executive, Christopher Cocker says statistics are one of the cornerstones of our industry and they firmly believe in building capacity in our member countries particularly with our small island states.

He adds that the practical experience gained from such surveys helps build national capacity and emphasizes the need to adopt World Tourism Organization standards in classification, concepts and definition.

The pilot survey training was to test the questionnaire, survey designs and logistics at the Airport.
