Shanghai Public Security officials visit Fiji

A delegation from Peoples Republic of China’s Shanghai Municipal Public Security is in the country to strengthen the relationship between Fiji Police Force and its counterpart.

The Acting Commissioner of Police Isikeli Ligairi and senior officers yesterday welcomed the delegation led by Chen Zhen, the Deputy Director General – Department of Public Security Bureau,

Zhen highlighted that the Shanghai Police and Fiji Police have cooperated on many different platforms, one of which was the arrest of important fugitives in 2013 who were extradited in time.

He also says there is a need to work together to strengthen policing because Fiji could be used as a channel for suspects to flee to other countries due to its geographical position.

Meanwhile, Acting Commissioner of Police Isikeli Ligairi acknowledged the support in training the officers from the Fiji Police Force.

He says close to 20 officers have undergone training at the Shanghai Academy since 2013.

The delegation departs tomorrow.
