Sexual harassment unreported says FWCC

September 5, 2015 12:47 am

The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre has been receiving a number of reports of sexual harassment.

However FWCC Coordinator, Shamima Ali says there are many more cases that are not reported.

“We also find that when she does report, she is often told to forget about it, no action is taken, women themselves are fired from the job and then they are seen as trouble makers, so for them to get another job becomes difficult’."

Ali says all women deserve respect whether employed or not and that relevant authorities must treat sexual harassment cases seriously.

The centre received 55 complaints of sexual harassment in the past 18-months.
