Serua kaji rugby team in bus accident

Police are investigating an accident involving a bus in Navua that claimed the life of a woman and left passengers mainly children injured.

The father of one of the children is amongst four people rushed to Colonial War Memorial in Suva in critical condition.

FBC News was told that one of the victims was critically injured when he accidently touched a live wire while trying to rescue students.

The students were members of the Serua Kaji rugby team that took part in the Rewa Galaxy Kaji Rugby tournament that was held in Suva this week.

They were returning home when the bus veered off the road, hit a power pole and landed in a drain at Waidradra around lunch time today.

Most of the students are from the Lomary District.

Police Director of Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra says they understand a rear tyre burst causing the bus to veer off the road.

Mishra says officers are taking statements from the passengers and other eye witnesses.

The students are waiting to be medically reviewed at Navua Hospital before they can be released.
