Police officers on leave have been called back as the hunt for five escaped prisoners continues.
Police also believe that five escaped inmates are involved in a spate of robberies early this morning.
According to police, an eight-seater van was taken from Tamavua and used at robberies at the Wishbone outlet at Laucala Beach, a home in Muanikau and the Peninsula Hotel in Suva.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro says the total value of items and money taken is yet to be confirmed.
She says the five have been serving long terms and this is what makes them dangerous.
Naisoro says they are also investigating how the five prisoners were able to escape.
The five inmates escaped from the Naboro Prison late last night prompting police to set up roadblocks throughout the capital.
