Police officer denied bail

June 4, 2012 5:10 am

A detective constable of Nabua police station charged with theft of marijuana and interfering with evidence has been remanded in custody.

Kaipati Bakoa appeared in the Suva Magistrates court this afternoon.

DPP lawyers asked to have the accused remanded as the offence is serious and it’s likely that he will interfere with witnesses.

Bakoa claimed in court that he is the only witness in this case – and the theft at the CID Headquarters where millions of dollars worth of cocaine was stolen.

The constable alleged the station officer Nabua was aware that certain individuals were hiding drugs in their clothes and taking it out.

Bakoa claims he’s framed because of his race.

He told the court he’s married with two children and following the charges it’s likely his family will be asked to vacate the barracks.

The case has been adjourned until 18th of this month for full disclosures to be served to the accused.
