Police drivers should be role models to other drivers

June 5, 2018 6:08 pm

Police officers driving official vehicles have been reminded to be mindful of their attitude on our roads.

Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra says police officers must be exemplary role models to not only other drivers but road users as well.

“That is something the public should be given with that image of the organization on how we are handling the mobility capabilities or the vehicles that have been allocated to the Fiji Police Force. So when we talk about the safety and the image of the organization and the professionalism than it is all about the driver’s attitude.”

Mishra says the introduction of a refresher course for authorized police drivers will emphasize the techniques, skills and knowledge to be a prudent driver.

He adds being issued a permit ID will ensure police drivers are driving responsibly on public roads.

Meanwhile, ACP Tudravu says any police vehicle that is written off after an accident or damaged that may cost more than $20,000 for repairs will result in the termination of the contract of the driver responsible.
