July 27, 2016 10:13 pm

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has warned civil servants in the Northern Division to have compassion when carrying out their duties in serving the people.

Speaking to civil servants in Labasa last night, Bainimarama says all other places where the carried out the sugar consultations this week, they have never been inundated with so many questions and issues like in Seaqaqa and Labasa.

He says this simply means that civil servants are not going out to the people and talking to them.

Bainimarama says there have been reports of civil servants telling the public that the government has no money to do water projects, build roads or lay pipes for water supply.

He says this is not the attitude the public wants or expects from civil servants.

An issue raised with the PM is the alleged mistreatment of an elderly woman in Seaqaqa by a TLTB officer, the matter has been referred to Police.

The PM says hearing these sorts of comments and complaints from the public tells a lot about the conduct of the civil servants, adding they do not take pride in what they do.

He warned them that when it comes to work and the treatment of others, civil servants have to have compassion.
