There’s a need for every Fijian to play their part in keeping the environment clean.

Assistant Minister for Environment, Lorna Eden says this will result in a healthier nation which will lead to a prosperous Fiji.

She says with the 20 cent plastic bag levy now in place, Fijians need to start using reusable bags.

“Plastic bags are one of the most harmful products to our environment as they block out drains and waterways causing unnecessary flooding. They end up in our rivers and oceans killing our fish and marine who mistake them for food. Every piece of plastic ever made still exists and even though some are have claimed to be bio degradable – the process takes forever and they continue to release poisonous toxins into our soil, waterways and oceans.”

Eden says Fijians need to first start by putting rubbish in the bins and also encourage others to so the same.

She was speaking at the launch of the 2018 Vodafone Fiji Hibiscus in Suva last night.
