The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji is appealing to Fijians utilising vessels during this festive season to take precautionary measures on board inter-island ships.

MSAF Acting CEO John Tunidau says accidents do happen and it is vital for people to prepare themselves before boarding any vessels.

‘’When you loaded you still have to keep a close eye on your children .It’s a different operating environment unlike land you are operating on sea, different sea conditions you need to take care of your children while that they do not wander ,that’s the responsibility of passengers when they on the ship so it’s important for them to make sure this is done’’.

Tunidau says they are currently working with other stake holders to ensure no mishaps happen.

Meanwhile, Tunidau has warned vessel owners that they will be taken to task if their vessel is overloaded by passengers or cargoes.
