The Local Government Ministry will continue with the current reform in place to improve the system of governance in municipalities.

Minister responsible Premila Kumar while delivering her ministerial statement in parliament says this is to ensure ratepayers get better returns.

She says we cannot rely on the flawed election system that was introduced in 1972.

The Minister adds that without these reforms, the ministry would undermine the progress the government has made to improve the municipality’s service.
