Parliament to convene special sitting to appoint President

The Speaker of the House Dr. Jiko Luveni has directed that a special sitting be held this Friday to appoint the President of the Republic of Fiji.

In a statement issued this afternoon, pursuant to section 83 (1) of the Constitution, the President holds office for three years and is eligible for re-appointment for one further term of three years, but is not eligible for re-appointment after that.

The current President Major General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote was appointed by Parliament on 12 October, 2015.
