No decision yet on the old bridge

The old Rewa Bridge is a landmark since it is the first of its kind to be constructed says Commissioner Central – Laisenia Tuitubou.

Tuitubou says they are looking at ways to better utilise the old bridge.

“Last year we had a discussion with the Works Ministry. The discussion was on the demolition of the bridge. But those discussions did not confirm anything and I don’t think it will happen.”

Tuitubou adds demolishing the bridge will be an expensive exercise.

“It will cost more money to demolish the bridge. We have had a sitting of District advisory council where I had thrown in an idea of having an open market day on the old bridge. The open market day will include everyone who can come with their goods to sell on the bridge on a day which we will allocate.”

The government is now working closely with the Nausori Town Council on ways in which the old bridge can serve the town.
