November 10, 2014 12:18 am

A new community welfare centre is now open to cater for the Fiji Royal British Legion community in Suva.

While opening the centre this morning, Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama says it will also provide a focal point for the work of the legion and provide assistance to those that need it.

Some Fijians serving in Britain have paid the ultimate sacrifice, they will never be forgotten. I want to say as Prime Minister how much we value the work being done by all those involved to assist families and communities of the fallen. Vinaka Vakalevu.

Bainimarama says he looks forward to continued support from the British government with British Prime Minister David Cameron having a personal interest in the centre and its success.

The centre will benefit the personnel and families of Fijians currently serving-or who have served-in the British Armed Forces.

It will be run by the Royal British Legion (Fiji Branch) to help its members during its difficult times.

There are currently 1800 Fijian soldiers serving with British corps and regiments.
