The Minister for Education, Heritage, Culture and Arts, Dr Mahendra Reddy has encouraged the need to learn the skills and processes involved in making traditional iTaukei mats, masi and pottery.

He made the comments while opening a three day workshop that is looking at preserving and promoting traditional iTaukei methods of pottery making, masi and tapa design and handicraft skill.

The Fiji Museum together with the Department of Heritage and Arts and the Fiji Arts Council, have organized the event targeting school children who are now on holidays, in the hopes of transferring knowledge of such methods so as to ensure their sustainability.
