NDP to look at specific areas

July 13, 2015 5:03 am

Minister for National Planning Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the government through the National Development Plan is looking at specific areas that need to be addressed especially with regards to development.

Sayed-Khaiyum says the five and twenty-year development plans will focus on priority areas to cater for the needs of the growing population in the future.

“When Fiji’s population becomes one million then how do we cater for those pressures that are on infrastructure? Obviously we all talk about development – if more people are going to have television sets and air conditioning because the place is doing well – it means more electricity – so it means FEA needs to produce more electricity, does it have the capacity to produce it or not, if it needs to produce it – where will they get it from – can they get three phase power for commercial and industrial purposes.”
