MOH aims to tackle NCD crisis by raising more awareness

The Ministry of Health today launched the annual Courts and Sports World Health and Fitness promotion that is aimed at fighting the uphill battle of Non Communicable Diseases.

Health Minister, Rosy Akbar says the statistics speak for themselves with more than 550 amputations attributed to diabetes.

Akbar says a mass multi-media campaign will be rolled out over the coming months in the hope that more Fijians will take better care of their health.

“Free medical screenings, healthy eating tips and Fitness tips provided at various Courts and Sports World locations during weekly outdoor broadcasts. Further to this, the general public will also be given the opportunity to participate in the exciting programs like fun run that will organised later in the year.”

The first health run has been scheduled for the 10th of February and is expected to start from My Suva Park.

Another health run has been earmarked for the 17th of February and there are plans to take that to the Northern division.

Meanwhile, the Health Minister stressed while some people resorted to social media to vent their frustrations with the health services, she was urging the public to report their issues to the Ministry.

She also stressed the use of the Customer Care Health Helpline “157” which people could either call or text in their issues.
