The Ministry of i-Taukei Affairs is looking at ways to get rid of violence against women and children.

Permanent Secretary Savenaca Kaunisela says this is a common problem and is on the rise in the i-Taukei communities.

He says the Ministry is working with UNICEF, Social Welfare and other stakeholders in regards to this.

“We are working on the mechanics right now, we have yet to finalise our awareness programme and take it down to the villages through vernacular language.”

He says the children and women should be protected from abuse and abuse of their right in villages.
