Officers from the Legal Aid Commission have been reminded that communication and sharing of information is important within any organization

Closing the Legal Aid Corporate Workshop in Nadi, Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum highlighted the important need for staff to remain customer focused.

“Sometimes people work in the same organization but they do not share information. They are not able to communicate well and sometimes you can be in the same office and you get enormous problems. So you should be able to communicate with each other. There may be certain matters that you think for example is peculiar to Nausori. There may be a similar issue in Taveuni or maybe Labasa or Rotuma – whatever the case may be and that sharing of information is very critical.”

Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says many at times – Fijians only seek Legal Aid assistance because it’s their only hope.

“Some of them may have a land issue, some of them may have a domestic issue, someone may be about to get evicted tomorrow and simply sometimes they want someone to be able to lend them their ear and you are able to listen to them. Sometimes of course what they want or would like to get done is completely out of the scope of the organization, out of the scope of your mandate. But you must still give them that particular level of attention and an avenue perhaps they can address that matter.”

The AG also called on the members of the largest Fijian Law firm to be resourceful and be on their toes with administrative changes in the country.
