Industrial relations minister meets with FICTU

Industrial Relations Minister, Jone Usamate, met with Union bodies including the Fiji Island Council of Trade Unions (FICTU) last week to hear their views and concerns on employment related matters.

During his meeting with FICTU National Secretary Attar Singh, the Minister was briefed on various issues including the need for awareness and training by the ministry on Mediation and the Employment Relations Promulgation (ERP) 2007 and recent amendment.

Usamate also noted the issue on the number of representatives raised by FICTU and the request by union bodies for the activation of biannual trainings usually conducted by the Ministry during the early movement.

He assured the Union of his Ministry’s commitment to addressing the issues raised and re-iterated that the reformed labour legislations promotes social dialogue in good faith as fundamental in the establishing a sustainable workplace relationships and productivity culture.
