Housing provided for retiring Corrections Officers

February 5, 2016 12:31 am

Houses and plots of land have been secured for Fiji Corrections Service officers who are nearing retirement.

Acting Commissioner Kameli Ratuvakalevulevu recently visited the site at Natogadravu in Wainibokasi, Nausori to inspect the development.

He says the visit was to ensure the process is moving along as it concerns the welfare of officers.

Ratuvakalevulevu adds that in the past, some officers who retired had no place to stay and ended up living in squatter settlements.

The Acting Commissioner says this housing initiative will provide a permanent and proper place for officers upon retirement.

Other benefits include the Corrections Service paying a five percent deposit for housing loans with salary deductions to make up for it.

The FCS has about four retirees every year.

18 officers have been given plots in Natogadravu while houses have also been secured at the Lagilagi Housing estate for 10 others.
