A heavy rain alert is now in force for the whole of Fiji.

The Nadi weather office issued a special weather bulletin in the last hour, saying a low pressure system lies slow moving to the northwest of Fiji.

The low pressure system is gradually deepening and is expected to become a tropical disturbance today and a tropical depression by tomorrow.

It is expected to move southeast towards Fiji.

At this stage, the weather office says it has low to moderate(20-50%) chance of developing into a tropical cyclone over Fiji waters.

The whole of Fiji can expect occasional rain, isolated thunderstorms with heavy falls.

The next special weather bulletin on heavy rain will be issued at 3.00 pm today or earlier.
