A continuous heavy downpour this morning resulted in flash flooding of many areas in the Central Division.

Unexpected flooding along Kanace Road in Valelevu damaged the homes and belongings of two families.

Resident, Ronald Chand says he was sleeping in one his cars when his wife woke him up asking for help.

“I was sleeping when the water came, my wife and my daughter were sleeping on the bed when the bed started floating, and they ran to me and shouted that water came inside. I thought they were lying. I slept again and she shouted for help again, then I woke up.”

Chand says all the electrical items and equipment in his garage were also damaged.

Another resident, Nemani Lomata says most of their basic items like food and clothing were damaged.

“We have been staying here since 1999 and this is the first time for us to come across this kind of incident and since it’s the first time, most of our household items were damaged.”

Meanwhile, residents affected have already started cleaning up.
