Grassfires still a concern to NFA

November 16, 2012 7:00 pm

The National Fire Authority has responded to about twelve grassfire incidents this week.

NFA Chief Executive Officer – John O’ Connor says this simply means attending to an average three grassfire incidents daily.

O’Connor says responding to such incidents leave higher risk of them not being able to reach out to the structural fire cases.

“We are urging the members of the community to be more vigilant and careful while burning the rubbish and also while playing with fire crackers near dry grassland because we believe most of the grassfires may have been caused because of the sparks from the fireworks.”

O’Connor says humid condition prevailing in the Western and the Northern Division may also be the cause of the grassfire incidents.
