FWRM report highlights 11 year old as Fiji's youngest accused of rape

94 Rape Cases were decided in the High Court last year.

This according to Sexual Violence against Women and Girls Rape Case Analysis 2018.

Fiji Women Rights Movement Executive Director Nalini Singh highlighted that in all 94 cases, the accused was a male with an average age of 39-years-old.

Singh says the youngest accused was 11 years old whereas the oldest was 85 years old.

“The average age of accused in 2018 was around 39 years old. The average age of the perpetrators in 2016 was around 38 and in 2017 it was around 37.”

Singh says in a majority of the cases, the perpetrator was known or related to the victim.
