FNU’s tuition fees hasn’t been reviewed for some years

The Fiji National University has revealed that the College has not reviewed their tuition fees for some years.

While presenting their Annual Report for 2017 before the Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Vice-Chancellor Nigel Healey says the consequence of this is that they are increasingly dependent on operating grants from government.

Healey says the operating grant is much higher for the College compared to the University of the South Pacific as USP revises their fees each year and is more expensive.
He says the College needs to revise its tuition fees.

“We think we need to begin a tuition fee review and to undertake that, just to rebounce a little bit, otherwise we are just constantly seeing the tuition fee decline in real terms.”

Healey adds they understand that this needs to be done sensitively as students fund some fees from TELS.
