Forty-five black and white photographs are on display at the Fiji National University’s Raiwai Campus celebrating 45 years of Independence in Fiji.

The photographs depict the various events that took place on Independence Day in 1970.

FNU Senior projects manager Peter Sipeli says such an exhibition give young people a chance to reconnect with a past.

“Because our young people are so far from the past that I think that exhibitions like this allow younger people to allow them to come into contact with the past.”

Present at the launch of the exhibition was FNU Chancellor Ikbal Jannif who says people who capture photos of historical events should try to send their images to the Fiji National Archives for storage.

The exhibition will be open to the public until November 26.
