FIU assists Police in profiling three drug syndicate

The Fiji Intelligence Unit has now teamed up with the Fiji Police Force to provide assistance in the investigation.

FIU Director Razim Buksh says together they’re undertaking complex financial transaction profiling investigations as drug trafficking is becoming a major concern.

Without revealing much information, Buksh says they are assisting police in profiling three drug syndicate in the country.

“Without going too much into detail and divulging confidential information, currently the financial intelligence unit is working very closely with the Fiji Police force in terms of profiling and providing assistance on three syndicates which is cocaine syndicate that operates, heroine syndicate and the crystal methamphetamines syndicate that operates in Fiji.” 

He is confident there is enough mechanisms in place to monitor these criminal activities.

Buksh says they’re also able to access and exchange information with police from more than160 financial intelligence units around the world on transnational criminal activities.
