Financial constraint major challenge for PRB

Financial constraint is one major challenge faced by the Public Rental Board to meet the ever-growing housing need.

Board acting general manager Patrick Veu adds due to the financial constraints, they have only been able to construct 495 units in the past few years.

He says the board is currently constructing more than 30 rental units in Simla, Lautoka.

_”We are thankful to the government for providing us $3.6m with which we are developing in Simla 36 units. Work is above the foundation right now and we are looking at Davuilevu, the Housing Authority is giving us around five acres of land, New Town, Raiwaqa, and Votua. There is a proposed unit of 630 flats and the estimated cost is $43.8 m”_

He says over two hundred units are needed annually to meet the growing demand.
