The Fiji Navy will be focusing on re-surveying priority areas like that of sea lanes in 2019.

Commander Navy Captain Humphrey Tawake says the main navigational route that they use for their sea lanes not only supports Fiji’s economic trade, it’s also the safest route navigating our waters.

Captain Tawake says boosting development in the outer islands will be another priority area when it comes to charting new routes.

“Those are the areas that we targeting that we trying to also spread to other areas for development within the islands, for wharf and says if a company wants to build a wharf for its own quarry or for any of the certain issues, we go out and do the surveys but the ones that are prioritized.”

Meanwhile the last survey conducted on Fijian waters was done by Captain James Cook two centuries ago.
