Fiji Met analyzes two more Tropical Disturbances

The Fiji Meteorological Services has revealed that another two more Tropical Disturbances were analyzed this afternoon.

Acting Director Viliame Vereivalu confirms that the Tropical Disturbances have a low to moderate chance of developing into a tropical cyclone.

TD04F is moving east at about 7knots, potential for this system to develop into a tropical cyclone in the next 24 to 48 hours is moderate. And another Tropical Disturbance was analysed to the far south west of Fiji. TD05F is moving east at about five knots and the potential for this system to develop into a tropical cyclone in the next 24 to 48 hours is low to moderate.”

Vereivalu says Tropical Depression 03F is moving away from Fiji, however a gale warning remains in force for the Northern Lau group.

“TDO3F centre was located about 80km northeast of Udu point and about 160km east-northeast of Labasa at 4pm today. TD03F is moving southeast at about 22km/hr away from the group. On the projected path, it is expected to be located about 180 km north northeast of Lakeba or about 320 km east-southeast of Udu point at midnight and about 420 km east-southeast of Lakeba at midday tomorrow.”

He is urging the public to take heed of the warnings as they closely monitor the two new disturbances.

If the systems further develop, the Fiji meteorological services will issue an alert and warning whenever necessary.
