Fiji has lost one of its most humble people in Yaminiasi Gaunavou.

These are the sentiments of Queen Victoria School Old Boys President, Anasa Vocea.

Vocea was a junior student to Gaunavou at QVS back in the 1960’s.

Today he reminisced of his times with a man, who later became a legend in broadcasting.

“What I recall about him is he was always a humble person who really loved his music. I remember he used to have his band in school and whenever there was a social there wasn’t any need to get any band from outside because YG was always there with his colleagues to play to the school. But he was a very humble person and we really feel his loss and we grieve his loss. Our condolences are with the family.”

Vocea adds Yaminiasi Gaunavou portrayed a life of leadership right from his school days.

“I just got a note from one of our colleagues from the Solomons, Mataiasi Lomaloma, and he’s saying in his tribute here that the one thing that he remembers about YG because he was his prefect there, and one thing he always told them was to work together and work hard and look after each other while in school so I think that represents the life of YG.”

The QVS Old Boys Club will present their reguregu to YG’s family tomorrow and on Saturday, Colonel Ilaisa Kacisolomone will deliver a eulogy on behalf of the club before they will sing a final number for their former school mate.
