This year’s Fiji Day Celebrations will be held at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.

Bainimarama says Fiji Day is a chance to reflect on our ties of the same extended Fijian family.

He reminded Fijians in Canada that those ties are not defined by our ethnicity, religion, gender or status in society.

He says it’s defined by the love we share for our country and commitment to one another.

He adds the darkest parts of Fijian history were those times that we failed to recognize these bonds.

He says the events of 1987 and 2000 that drove many Fijians overseas , away from home left a gapping hole in the heart of our nation and set us back decades, threatening the future of Fiji and it’s citizens.

Bainimarama says he has made it his personal mission to assure that no Fijian had felt cast aside in their own country.

For those abroad, Bainimarama said he has made special efforts to reach out to the Diaspora communities and reconnect with their extended Fijian families.

Fiji will be celebrating it’s 47th year of independence on 10th October.
