Fifth escapee surrenders to Police

All five escapees who escaped from the Suva courthouse cell block on Tuesday have been arrested and are back in police custody.

The fifth escapee Niko Talemaitoga is back in police custody after surrendering himself to the Southern Division Taskforce this morning.

25-year-old Talemaitoga was the lone escapee that was on the run since Tuesday after four others – Suliano Rokosuka, Jonacani Qalova, Emosi Baledrokadroka and Maika Tovagone were arrested earlier in the week and have been charged, produced in court and remanded in custody.

Talemaitoga is in custody at the Totogo Police station and is expected to be produced at the Suva Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho has acknowledged the support shown towards the efforts by Police to recapture all five escapees since their escape from lawful custody on Tuesday.

Information given by members of the public had assisted the work of the taskforce showing support towards fighting crime.

The Police Commissioner has also acknowledged the media’s role in disseminating the timely information.
