FIA bound to inform the Registrar of Political Parties

February 12, 2016 8:25 pm

The Fiji Institute of Accountants says it was legally bound to inform the Registrar of Parties about an unregistered accountancy firm auditing the National Federation Party.

FIA President Nouzab Fareed has confirmed that the NFP’s accounts audit was not carried out by an accountant accredited with a Certificate of Public Practice.

Fareed says the Certificate is only given to chartered accountants who have work experience another firm already accredited with a CPP.

He says the FIA was simply following the law.

“So in this case someone has seen it and they made a complaint, so we informed the Supervisor of Elections, sir please note we saw this in the paper but according to our records, this company or this person is not a CPP, so they cannot sign off. So there after what happens is beyond our control, as a professional body we are supposed to show what is right what is wrong.”

The FIA to date has 800 members, 290 are chartered accountants and 41 have CPP accreditation.
