For the first time, the Fijian Elections Office will have an Election Visitor Program.

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem says they only have 5 spots for this program which will be fully funded under the 2018 general election banner.

Saneem says the intention of the program is to enable sharing of information and knowledge as well as election practices with our neighboring countries from the region and international partners.

“The program will involve a one day briefing, prior to Election Day and visitations to polling venue on Election Day as well as to account at one of the polling stations and then from there to the count centre itself and then to the result centre where the electoral commission will host the visitors that evening.”

Saneem says this is not an observer program and will be managed by the Fijian Elections Office international relations team.

He adds that anyone can participate, however they must send their expression of interest to the FEO office via their website before the 2nd of November.

The Supervisor of Elections reiterates that there are no particular requirements except that the applicants will have to state why they wish to participate in the program and what they hope to learn from it.
