In an effort to improve cane delivery process the Fiji Sugar Corporation is calling on interested companies to send an expression of interest.

FSC executive chair Abdul Khan says through this expression of interest they want to identify companies that can haul larger volumes of cane to the mills.

Khan has clarified that by doing so they are not getting rid of the existing cane delivery system but are trying to minimize delivery costs and improve efficiency.

“We also looking at example of collection points – we have smaller vehicles bringing cane to collection point and then we re-load it to other a rail system or bigger trucks so that we reduce the congestion on the road and we also try and utilise our rail system more efficiently.”

Khan adds the scheme will not be implemented this year as they are still gathering date and it will come into effect after evaluation.
