The National Disability Council for Persons with Disabilities says many people resort to drugs as a form of solution to the challenges they face in life.

NCDP Executive Director, Dr Sitiveni Yanuyanutawa says this happens when people sway away from communalism and their social settings.

Dr. Yanuyanutawa says it’s crucial that people talk about their hardships and share it with the people they trust.

He also says that this has always been our biggest downfall and family support is important in many situations.

“Whether it’s marijuana, methamphetamine, ecstasy or any other form of illicit substance – it definitely challenges your psychological makeup and it’s a burden to the society, it’s also a burden to the country as a whole. I know it spins alot of money to people who are doing illegal business or selling those drugs but it’s not good for Fiji."

The Council also says many people are being influenced by westernization and even their various peer groups.
