Dredging works to address flood events in Waicoka

Dredging works that will soon start in the Waidamu River will benefit close to 200 residents of Waicoka village in Tailevu.

The village is situated on the bank of the river and is prone to flooding during heavy rain.

With the Fijian government stating they will do whatever it takes to assist those affected by the impacts of climate change.

Lands Minister Ashneel Sudhakar says dredging works do play a major role in addressing flood events in Waidamu and other areas vulnerable to flooding.

“The  Government is well prepared to continue to seek such sustainable, new and innovative solutions and partnerships  for this is the best way to tackle the constant battering posed by climate change”

The works on the 18 kilometer river is expected to start this month.
