Digital connectivity will remain an area of focus for the government.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, during 2019/2020 National Budget consultation yesterday in Suva.

The Minister for Economy says among agriculture, sugar and resource based sectors, digital connectivity is critical to ensuring services in remote rural communities.

“This is very very important to get more people connected. Today for example through Walesi somebody in Lau, somebody in Rotuma can actually watch all the 8 channels. And of course we are improving the quality where we can exchange data. And that is very important because we want the child for example who goes to some school in Kadavu or in Lau to have the same access to technology that a student maybe getting in Suva.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says they will also improve medical services.

The last round of public consultation was held yesterday in Suva.

Fijians have time until the 26th of April to hand in their written submissions as the National Budget for 2019/2020 financial year will be delivered on June 7th.
